Latest in my drawing series. Sharpie, india ink, and a little white charcoal on paper. I’m really enjoying this little series I’ve been doing, which began in October. So far, I documented animals in my neighborhood during the fall, unfortunately, didn’t make the time for winter, which is now nearly over. Spring is around the corner, so I’ll start documenting again next month.
Smiling Moon (Color) Ink and tissue paper, 2014.
I did a chine colle style version of my “Smiling Moon” image, which I carved in 2013. It’s based on my niece, and so this being the best print of it, will go to her mom as a birthday present.
*My niece loves umbrellas, is a pisces, and has Moon in her name, so you kinda got to know her to get it :)

Just some insight into my process….
The block I printed from had been carved a while ago and I’m glad I finally put aside the time (along with gathering the materials) to make these prints this weekend.
As for carving the block, it’s only about 4.5x 6.4 inches… but do you know how many Nerdist Podcasts I listened to while carving it?

Rufous Hummingbird. Ink and tissue paper, 2014.
My first attempt at chine colle (a printmaking process that uses tissue paper to add a pop of color). This is one of the many hummingbirds I found on my walks, nestled on a palm frond. I’m pretty sure it was a Rufous, but I’ll admit, I’m not an expert on birds.

Made some progress on an art project I started last fall, I’m gonna nickname it “observations of Whittier wildlife”. Made a couple more ink drawings and prints from some of my favorite sketches and photos taken during my frequent walks in October. I see no end in sight for this project, and that’s probably a good thing.
